What's it about?
Billie Holiday continues to set standards with her music to this day. The same applies to Michael Gibbs, who, as a composer of modern big band literature, has an internationally shining career alongside Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, and many others. Already in the 1960s, when he was a student at Berklee College of Music, Gibbs was fascinated by Lady Day (Billie Holiday's nickname) and wrote several arrangements of the songs that made her famous during her tragically short life. Together with Michael Gibbs, Ed Puddick will lead the orchestra through the concert and will conduct original compositions by Michael Gibbs in the second set.
