Anna erzählt: Ein Stück Widerstand
What's it about?
Premiere by Thomas Arzt. Commissioned work of the Chamber of Labour Upper Austria. Anna, 14 years old, sits in her parents' attic and looks through her 'world window'. Something terrible is happening outside. The people in the village participate overnight in a brutal crime. They have gone out with sticks, pitchforks, and rifles, on the orders of the ruling politics, to recapture more than 400 'escaped' men — 'enemies' of the system. At the forefront of the cruel manhunt are also Anna's neighbors. Even her brother must 'do his duty'. Blood soon stains the streets. Corpses in the fields. And unrest in Anna's thoughts: Should she just look away when 'fascism rages and kills'? Should she run away? Should she resist? And what if one of the persecuted suddenly knocks on her door and asks for help?
