What's it about?

Poetry in the spotlight Ingeborg Bachmann, one of the most important poets of the 20th century, would have celebrated her 100th birthday this year. Yet even today, poets in Austria still find it difficult to find publishers and stages for their art. This event uses Bachmann's anniversary to provide a platform for two contemporary authors – in line with Bachmann's own feminist activism. Isabella Krainer (*1974 in Carinthia) combines political speech with dialectal imagery in her texts. Her books "Vom Kaputtgehen" (2020) and "Heul doch!" (2024, both published by Limbus Verlag) are as sharp as they are poetic. Siljarosa Schletterer (*1991), rooted in Tyrol, Lower Austria, and Switzerland, writes poetry influenced by nature and physicality. Her volumes "azur ton nähe. flussdiktate" (2022) and "entschämungen. körperkantate" (2025, Limbus Lyrik) demonstrate that poetry can bark – or whisper.
