Suburbia: Built Dreams – The Future of the Single-Family Home
What's it about?
13 current projects show how existing houses can be transformed into a sustainable future through renovation, transformation, and repurposing.A large house with a garden, swimming pool, and two cars in the garage. A quiet, safe place for the nuclear family, close to nature and in a peaceful environment. To this day, the majority of the population wishes for the realization of this dream, with far-reaching social and ecological consequences such as land consumption, sealing, and vacancy.Based on historical materials, the exhibition traces the history of this ideal of living, which – originating in the US suburbs – conquered the world and successfully established itself here after the Second World War. Graphics and statistics illustrate the effects of the single-family home on humans, animals, and plants. However, the exhibition focuses on the potential of existing buildings.Exhibition talks: Thursdays, July 16, August 27, and September 10, always at 6:00 PM
