Public Viewing in Pfaffenschlag: Elektroautos als Stromspeicher

Tuesday 24 November · 19:00Gemeindesaal Pfaffenschlag · niederoesterreich

What's it about?

Electric cars as future energy storage. Electric cars could become much more than just transportation: as mobile energy storage units, they can store energy and supply it back to a house or the power grid when needed. The Climate and Energy Model Region (KEM) Thayaland is dedicating a special public viewing evening to this future topic on November 24, 2026, at 7 p.m. in the Pfaffenschlag community hall. Under the title "The Electric Car as a Power Storage – Science or Fiction?" a lecture by Kurt Leonhartsberger will be broadcast live as part of the Waldviertel real-world laboratory. The focus is on the possibilities of bidirectional charging — the ability of electric vehicles to not only draw power but also to return it. This particularly involves the connection with photovoltaic systems and the question of which applications are already possible in Austria today. "The electric car is increasingly evolving from a pure consumer of electricity to a flexible component of our energy system. Especially in combination with photovoltaics, the battery of an electric car could play an interesting role as a storage unit in the future. We want to show what is technically already possible and what opportunities this offers for households and regional energy transition," says Christina Hirsch, KEM manager. Discuss and ask questions. The public viewing aims not only to impart knowledge but also to provide space for exchange. After the live broadcast, visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions with the speaker Kurt Leonhartsberger and experts from WEB Windenergie AG. They are available for questions and answers about bidirectional charging, energy storage, and the practical use of electric cars as part of the energy system. This allows for individual questions to be discussed and experiences to be shared. Registration: wir.thayaland.at/events or by phone at 02843 26135.
