💠 Information about the event: This Sunday, the Red Cross is holding a blood donation campaign from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 15:00. This prepares donors well for donating blood in high temperatures: drink plenty of water, unsweetened teas or juices—two to three liters spread throughout the day. Fuel your body beforehand with carbohydrates (legumes, whole grain products). Avoid physical exertion and direct sunlight, and cool down your body as much as possible. Take a rest of at least 30 minutes after donating. "Then there is nothing standing in the way of donating blood even on hot days," says Dr. Gänsdorfer, who calls for blood donations: "In the summer months, willingness to donate blood decreases—but births, acute emergencies, or the care of chronically ill people do not pause despite the temperatures. Blood cannot be artificially produced, and in Austria, a blood donation is needed every 90 seconds. For many people, it means life or death.
