Creating Additional Income with Vacation Guests

What's it about?

Vacation on farms and private room rentals are on the rise. More and more guests are seeking genuine encounters, personal hosts, and authentic insights into rural life. These special holiday experiences make small, family-run accommodations highly sought after. Do you have spare rooms, an unused floor, or are you considering creating holiday apartments? Take the opportunity to rent out additional living space for tourism and build an attractive supplementary income. The numbers speak for themselves: our member businesses generated over 2.8 million euros in revenue in 2025 through the booking tool provided by the State Association for Vacation on Farms & Private Room Rentals in Lower Austria. This averages 11,235 euros per online bookable accommodation – repeat guests and bookings via phone or email are not included in this sum. The overnight stay figures in Lower Austria, which include all farm accommodations—whether members of the state association or not—also confirm this trend. In 2025, holiday farms recorded 217,758 overnight stays. The numbers for rooms on farms have slightly decreased, but those in farm holiday apartments and houses increased significantly—by 4.84% compared to the previous year. Privately run rooms with breakfast, holiday apartments, and houses recorded 527,719 overnight stays in 2025, representing an overall increase of 5.5%.
