Harvest Festival in Spitz

What's it about?

As every year, the great Harvest Festival in Spitz an der Donau will take place again on the first Sunday in October - this year on October 4, 2026. Many diligent hands will festively adorn the Spitz church in the days prior, each altar will be artistically designed, the pulpit, the choir, many niches and corners will be festively decorated. The parade, accompanied by the Trachtenkapelle Spitz, will set off from the old town hall. The members of the Hauerschaft will carry the richly decorated guild signs and flags, the Weingartengeiß, the large grape and Saint Urbanus, the young female winemakers will carry the artfully designed harvest crown, the folk dance group will carry the arches made of vine leaves required for the crown dance, and the numerous children present will carry their harvest baskets, all moving towards the church. Many people from Spitz will come in traditional costume, showing their connection to their homeland. After the festive mass, the members of the folk dance group will perform several dances on the church square, the highlight of which, as always, is the wonderful crown dance. While the Trachtenkapelle plays for the Frühschoppen, the winemakers will serve their first Sturm (new wine) of the year, accompanied by bread and fresh grapes and apples.
