HELLO, DOLLY! Classical musical in Langenlois for the first time! The horizon of musical comedies in front of Haindorf Castle is expanded by one of the most popular "musical comedies" ever. After its Broadway premiere in 1964, HELLO, DOLLY! set the record as the longest-running musical to date with over 2,800 performances. Four Broadway revivals followed, and the film adaptation with Barbra Streisand and Louis Armstrong went around the world. So not Vienna, but New York around 1900 is the setting of the play, which also has Viennese roots: The story of two small employees from the provinces who want to be "damned fellows" for once and, on their pleasure trip to the big city, meet their strict boss, goes back to Johann Nestroy's EINEN JUX WILL ER SICH MACHEN. At the center is a "damn demanding woman," the matchmaker Dolly Levi (Cornelia Horak). She holds the strings, brings three couples in love together, teaches the tyrannical "half-millionaire" Horace Vandergelder (Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz) a lesson... and finally leads him with gentle force into the harbor of marriage. HELLO, DOLLY! not only gives us irresistible music but also some tongue-in-cheek life wisdom: "Marriage is an attempt at bribery to make a housekeeper believe she is the homeowner."
