What's it about?

Johannes Brahms was just 26 when he performed the premiere of his Piano Concerto in D minor at the Royal Court Theatre in Hanover. In this concerto, which he himself described as "large and difficult," he poured not only youthful energy but also the dramas of his life. For almost 150 years, it has fascinated and thrilled the most significant pianists. Thus, it is naturally one of Rudolf Buchbinder's favorite pieces; he savors the grand emotions within it as much as the lyrical, rapturous moments. Lahav Shani, an excellent pianist himself, took over the traditional Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in September 2018 as the youngest chief conductor in the ensemble's 100-year history. With Ludwig van Beethoven's "Eroica," this first of two impressive concert evenings by the guests from the Netherlands finds a truly "heroic" conclusion. Note: The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra unfortunately had to cancel its participation in this concert for organizational reasons. We are pleased that the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra has taken over the guest performance in Grafenegg with a changed program.
