What's it about?

The first of four afternoon concerts in the new Rudolf Buchbinder Saal focuses on the poetry of Emily Dickinson – one of the most important poets in world literature. Pulitzer Prize winner Kevin Puts, in close artistic collaboration with the celebrated mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato and the multi-award-winning ensemble Time for Three, has created a song cycle from her work that sets 24 poems to music. Each of these poems, according to Joyce DiDonato, opens "its own cosmos," with the concise titular poem at the end: "No Prisoner be – / Where Liberty – / Himself – abide with Thee – (Let no one be in custody – / Where freedom – / Makes itself your housemate –)".
