A home game for the Slavic soul: Piotr Beczała, audience favorite from the Vienna State Opera to the New York Met, combines the intimately expressive song treasures of his compatriot Mieczysław Karłowicz, little known outside his native Poland, with great romantic songs by Antonin Dvořak, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Some of these pieces seem tailor-made for the opera stage, where Beczała has celebrated great successes for decades and to which he pays homage in three arias from Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin", Dvořak's "Rusalka", and Stanisław Moniuszko's "Straszny Dwor". The celebrated French lied pianist Sarah Tysman will be performing as his piano partner for the first time in Grafenegg.
