What's it about?

Every year on All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, we open the doors of our TrauerRaum (mourning space). Here, you will find a special place where you can consciously experience your grief. In accordance with the motto "Mourning – Complaining – Hoping – Suffering – Loving – Letting Go," we want to provide you with a space where grief is tangible and thus easier to cope with. You will find the TrauerRaum in the Roman cellar of the Klosterneuburg Monastery (entrance Sala terrena). Even the silence in the historic vaulted cellar has a calming effect. Additionally, various stations invite you to reflect and feel: Lay down burdens: You can transfer the heaviness of a cold stone, symbolizing a burden, to the cleansing power of water. Find reconciliation: Tie a white ribbon to an olive tree as a sign of reconciliation. Express feelings: You can leave your anger and sorrow at a prayer wall. Bring light and hope: Lighting a candle brings light into darkness and offers hope. At each station, you will find inspiring texts and stories. In the TrauerRaum, you can fully immerse yourself in your grief – alone, in silence, and at your own pace. If you wish, there is also the possibility of a personal conversation with one of our volunteer grief counselors at any time. After All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, the TrauerRaum will be opened exclusively for school classes. Religion and ethics teachers can bring their students and, after a brief introduction, visit the TrauerRaum. With this offer, we aim to give students the opportunity to engage with the topic of "farewell."
