Market Days at Aggstein
What's it about?
September 12 & 13, 2026 I 9 AM - 6 PM I Admission to the market in front of the castle is free. A real highlight in the Wachau autumn: On Dirndlgwandsonntag (traditional dress Sunday), the market days at Aggstein Castle Ruins enchant their audience anew every year and invite visitors to enjoy two special days again this year. Market in front of the castle The colorful stalls are set up directly in front of the castle ruins. While you stroll through the diverse offerings, you can enjoy the magnificent view of Aggstein and the Danube. Look forward to: * Regional delicacies and everything made from apricots * Fruit juices and Wachau wines * Handicrafts, jewelry, and much more * Singing with a view (on Sunday - organized by Volkskultur NÖ) * Folk dance & choir from the Wachau * Dirndl fashion show Combine adventure & enjoyment While one part of the family enjoys the market, the other can solve tricky puzzles in the castle's Outdoor Escape Room. At Burgwirt Siegfried, Surschnitzerl (cured pork schnitzel) & fresh Sturm (partially fermented grape must) await on both days – with hot chestnuts, the perfect culinary start to the Wachau wine autumn. Fairy Tale Tour Sunday, 2:00 PM | Meeting point: Castle ticket office | Duration: approx. 2 hours. The wonderful storyteller Dena Seidl will show you the Aggstein Castle Ruins, weaving historical stories with her fairy tales and inviting you into a world where fairy tale characters come alive. Recommended for ages 5 and up I Limited number of participants I Please register! Price: Children € 8.50 | Adults € 9.50 Hike: Particularly rewarding in autumn – either via the historic Eselsteig (approx. 40 min. from Aggstein village) or on the family-friendly route from Marial Langegg. Access to the castle: regular admission prices apply.
