What's it about?

What appears trivial at first glance reveals a surprising richness upon closer inspection: apples and cider pears in all their forms, colors, and peculiarities. The exhibition features pomological photographs of regional fruit varieties – botanically precise, carefully composed, and also of particular aesthetic appeal. Round, angular, ribbed, finely dotted, golden yellow, red-flamed, or green shimmering: each variety tells of its origin, landscape, use, and history. The focus is on the diversity of hundreds of regional fruit varieties, including old familiar ones, rare treasures, and exciting new discoveries, e.g., from Seitenstetten. During the vernissage, the newly developed variety book will also be presented, created by Martina Schmidthaler, Gerlinde Handlechner, and Mathias Weis. It combines pomological accuracy with information about the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Mostviertel region. The vernissage will include a lecture on Thursday at 7:30 PM at the Bildungshaus Seitenstetten, with presentations by Martina Schmidthaler, Gerlinde Handlechner, and Mathias Weis. Music will be provided by Karin Kimmeswenger and Lorenz Müller.
