Some celebrate their triumphant return, while others are concerned about the increasing obedience of the masses to authority. From Sigmund Freud to Erich Fromm, from Hannah Arendt to Slavoj Žižek: philosophy, psychoanalysis, and politics have long questioned the nature and legitimacy of authority. But what does it actually mean to be authoritarian? What forms of authoritarianism can be distinguished? Who do we recognize as an authority, and whom do we voluntarily submit to? Is there a right to obey or a duty to resist? If it is true that authority is necessary, then it is not enough to reject it outright. We need to understand whom we must obey and when. Lisz Hirn, born in 1984, studied philosophy and singing in Graz, Paris, Vienna, and Kathmandu. She works as a publicist and philosopher in youth and adult education, including at the "Philosophical Practice" course at the University of Vienna. In 2023, Zsolnay published "Der überschätzte Mensch. Anthropologie der Verletzlichkeit" (The Overestimated Human. Anthropology of Vulnerability). Susanne Pollinger is a moderator specializing in literary discussions and has been accompanying authors in public dialogues for many years.
