What's it about?
Die Buchenbergbande and other time travels. In the Literary Matinee 2026, Matthias Settele will once again take us to exciting places in the city's history: The afternoons of a youth gang on the Buchenberg form the starting point of the first time travel. We learn how to build a slingshot, smoke lianas, and why every gang back then had to have its territory and a camp. We also travel to the year 1532. What happened in the legendary Turkish battle in Kreilhof? For the first time, we experience the events from the perspective of the attackers based on an unpublished diary of an Akıncı soldier involved. We take a look behind the scenes of the glorious Hammerherren (hammer lords) era: What was the daily work like on the Ybbs and Schwarzbach for apprentices and journeymen? We search for the city's scars from the Reformation turmoil, the French Wars, and the Nazi era and ask how they heal. And: How did Kipferl, coffee, and croissant come to the city? There are now finally answers to these and other never-asked questions. The last time travel takes us into the future: We experience the workday of a mayoress of Waidhofen in 2066 ... Photos by Florian Böhm document the city stories. There will also be live music with an ensemble from the Waidhofen Music School. Look forward to true anecdotes and invented time travels, from the Turkish Wars to the future.
