Where does this tradition come from? The tradition dates back to a time when wine played a very important role. It was believed that everyone who slides down the barrel on November 15 – the day of St. Leopold, the patron saint of Lower Austria – would have especially good luck and health in the coming year. Today, Fasslrutschen is mainly about fun: children can slide multiple times, and parents are also welcome to try.
