Vortrag mit Dr. Winfried Garscha
What's it about?
Mr. Dr. Winfried Garscha is an Austrian historian who, after his retirement, has been working as an honorary co-director of the Central Austrian Research Center for Post-War Justice at the Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance (DÖW). In addition, he conducts lectures and participates in scientific conferences across Europe and the USA. The lecture focuses on the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939 and the rise of General Franco. It was a time of major decisions in Europe. Suddenly, tens of thousands of volunteers from around the world decided spontaneously to support Spain in the impending civil war. These volunteers included artists, intellectuals, persecuted individuals, adventurers, and it led to a large exodus of writers. This part is contributed by Christa Treiber, a volunteer librarian. Admission: free donation.
