Naturfreunde Winzendorf - Commemorative Reading on the Fire Disaster
What's it about?
Gerhard Kofler reads from eyewitness accounts. 108 years ago, on September 18, 1918, 423 women burned to death in the Wöllersdorf ammunition factory - among them 14 women from Winzendorf. Among the victims were Kofler's two 18-year-old great-aunts, Leopoldine Mayer and Maria Kollmann. All texts presented recall the conditions in our homeland at that time and are intended to keep the lives of the women who burned to death in the ammunition factory alive in memory. But remembering alone is not enough; today more than ever, we must strive to maintain peace in our country and strengthen peace initiatives.
