Die Geierwally
What's it about?
Walburga Stromminger, the daughter of the highest farmer, has truly earned her nickname, as no one else dared to clear the nest of the vulture. Only the Geierwally is so wild, so free. Until she falls in love with Bärenjosef and defies her father. Wally is banished to the highest mountain, into austerity and loneliness. She will give up, the father is sure that winter will drive her back into his house. But she is unyielding, staying true to her vulture companion, enduring exile and the village's scorn, until finally her father dies and the estate falls to her. But even with all the wealth and power of the high farmer, something is missing. The proud Geierwally has not yet found her lost heart again. South Tyrolean author Anna Gschnitzer has repeatedly shown that she has a sense for the emotional core of a story without falling into clichés. Gschnitzer adapts Wilhelmine von Hillern's novel, published in 1875, by questioning the well-known. She does not show a kitschy operatic vision, but the harsh reality of an outsider who refuses to be bent, not even for love. Wolfgang Menardi is one of the most sought-after directors of today. He brings "Die Geierwally" to the stage as a very current, feminist homeland piece, together with folk musicians, dancers, and the city ensemble. Director & Stage: Wolfgang Menardi Costumes: Michael Sieberock-Serafimowitsch Artistic Production Management: Lucas Vogel Dramaturgy: Tabea Baumann Composition & Music: Matteo Haitzmann World Premiere on March 15, 2027.
