With an imperial-feminine first name and sharing a name with one of its most famous guests, Josephine Baker, she manages the Panhans with discreet sovereignty. Everyone of rank and name – or not – must pass her concierge lodge: "Frau Josephine, has mail arrived for me?" "Frau Josephine, please arrange transport to the Busserlzug!" ...and much more. She knows everything, sees everything, and keeps silent. Mostly. But today, at the gala dinner, she unpacks. She tells stories of the Panhans, of Semmering and its guests, of the legendary 20-Schilling view, of the Busserlzug, of the Alpenbad and Casino, of car and ski races, of regular guests and fake existences, of seekers of meaning, daring men and equally daring "Hoserldamen" (a playful term for women). And to all this, songs resound – chansons that she performs only today, only at the gala dinner, and only for its guests.
