Literature in Motion: With the 6th edition of the event series 'Das Land liest' (The Land Reads) – a cooperation between Treffpunkt Bibliothek and Literaturhaus NÖ – the aim is to bring literary quality to all regions of Lower Austria from September 16 to 26 through a diverse program. In moderated discussions and readings, Austrian and international writers are guests in libraries across Lower Austria. Hanna Prandstätter, a staff member of the Archiv der Zeitgenossen, will speak with Renate Welsh in Kottingbrunn on September 26 about her work, life, and the current volume 'Fäden aufnehmen' (Taking Up Threads). This volume is a compilation, scheduled for publication in autumn 2026 by the Literature Edition NÖ. 'Fäden aufnehmen' gathers short prose texts from four decades of her productive work. Some of the texts come from the author’s desk drawers and the depths of her computer files, while others are from her estate handed over to the Archiv der Zeitgenossen in 2024. Together, the prose miniatures document her ongoing engagement with her own family history as well as numerous encounters with a variety of people. Renate Welsh, born in 1937, grew up in Vienna and Bad Aussee. She studied English, Spanish, and Political Science, and worked as a freelance translator. She is the author of children's and youth books, including 'Das Vamperl' and 'Johanna,' as well as novels such as 'Liebe Schwester' and 'Großmutters Schuhe' (Grandmother’s Shoes). She has received numerous awards, including the Austrian Recognition Award, the Recognition Award of the State of Lower Austria, and the Austrian State Prize for Children’s and Youth Literature.
