KulturCuvée - Geiselhart-Panzl Quartet: "Jazz & Wine"

What's it about?

Markus Geiselhart and David Panzl, both teachers at the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, first collaborated musically in June 2023 during a joint project in South Africa. During a workshop in Johannesburg, the trombonist and the drummer performed together on stage for the first time – a collaboration that proved to be artistically and personally particularly inspiring. The great musical joy they shared there led to the formation of a quartet upon their return to Austria. Initially, the repertoire mainly consisted of selected classics from the "Great American Songbook." However, increasingly, original compositions by Markus Geiselhart now shape the program, giving the quartet a distinctive musical signature. The formation is complemented by Alexander Vounelakos, one of the most exciting pianists of the young Vienna jazz scene, and Stefan Thaler on bass. The quartet stands for energetic, melodic, contemporary jazz at the highest level.
