What's it about?
A Vienna coffeehouse in 1938: Amidst the aroma of coffee, everyday stories, and piano music, a family tries to maintain their place in a world that is suddenly thrown off balance. In his new singspiel EIN KLEINES CAFÉ IRGENDWO, Peter Lund tells the moving story of a coffeehouse owner and his family — a family trying to preserve their everyday happiness as a dark time begins around them. The music is by Hermann Leopoldi, the legendary Viennese cabaret artist, pianist, and composer, whose songs continue to embody the heart and humor of Vienna today. With chansons like "Schön ist so ein Ringelspiel," "In einem kleinen Café in Hernals," or "Da geht’s uns gut," Leopoldi wrote timeless melodies that speak of joy of life, wit, and human warmth — often providing comfort precisely where the world is falling apart. In the musical arrangements by Kai Tietje, Leopoldi’s immortal melodies are reborn — lovingly gentle yet contemporary — blending with Peter Lund’s libretto to create a musical theater evening that links past and present: touching, lively, and deeply human. EIN KLEINES CAFÉ IRGENDWO — a new musical theater piece about what remains when everything else wavers: love, memory, and music. (Subject to change)
