"A Journey through Vienna" Sebastian Holecek - Baritone Jimmy Chiang - Piano This song evening invites you on a musical-literary journey through Vienna. The starting point is the "Viennese in Opera": Papageno from Mozart's The Magic Flute - a character who embodies much of what the Viennese song (Wienerlied) sings about, with his joy of life and down-to-earthness. From there, the program spans to the Kremser Alben, a true treasure trove of classical Viennese songs. Well-known titles like Der alte Drahrer or Was a Öst’reich is lead into the world of traditional Viennese music - full of charm, humor, and melancholy. Between the songs, cheerful texts by Krutisch and Josef Weinheber provide literary interludes. Poems are contrasted with Viennese songs and connected by a narrative thread that runs through the program, illuminating different facets of the Viennese soul. The evening concludes with two timeless classics of the Wienerlied: Wien wird schön erst bei Nacht and Wien, Wien nur du allein! - musical declarations of love for a city whose mood, wit, and feeling are still inseparably linked with the Wienerlied.
