Description: Paris, Montmartre — the district of bohemia, artists, dreamers. Among ateliers, cafés, and small stages, Emmerich Kálmán’s delightful operetta THE VIOLET OF MONTMARTRE, which premiered in Vienna in 1930, is performed. It is the last operetta by the composer, a work that balances nostalgia and new beginnings, between Viennese waltz happiness and the pulsating rhythm of Parisian revue. The story centers on Violetta, a young girl with a big heart and an even bigger talent. She works as a housemaid in the artist scene of Montmartre — until life itself leads her onto the stage. From a simple servant girl, she becomes a celebrated actress, a woman fighting for her love and asserting herself. And because it is a genuine Kálmán operetta, a surprising twist awaits at the end: the "Violet" turns out to be the daughter of a countess — and love is no longer hindered. Kálmán’s music offers a loving portrait of Parisian bohemia: lively, melancholic, full of wit and emotion. Between waltz, foxtrot, and chanson, a world unfolds that celebrates life — with all its highs, lows, and hopes. The evergreen "Tonight I Dreamed of You" became a symbol of this longing for love and happiness that transcends social boundaries. In the special stage adaptation for Bühne Baden, Kálmán’s operetta is presented in an intimate, newly conceived version in the Max-Reinhardt-Foyer — very close to the audience, charming, playful, with a special focus on the characters and their dreams. THE VIOLET OF MONTMARTRE is a homage to dreaming — and to the power of art to turn modest beginnings into great stories. (Changes reserved)
