Florida, 1942: The 'Palm Beach Ladies for Unity' have managed to secure the two leading divas of show business for a charity event. At the luxurious Palm Beach Hotel, film star Athena Sinclair and vocal wonder Claudia McFadden will perform at a glamorous gala evening to raise funds for the soldiers at the distant front. Although the war feels far away, the noble hotel becomes the scene of a relentless clash in the afternoon before the show. The two Hollywood stars are arch-rivals and cannot stand each other. Hotel director Dunlap must carefully ensure they do not meet in person, for heaven's sake. This proves difficult, as each of the two egomaniacs naturally claims the presidential suite for herself. As a result, the suite becomes the setting for a series of misunderstandings, mistaken identities, door slamming, nerve-wracking crises, and narrowly avoided disasters. On various, sometimes shifting fronts, hotel page boys Francis and Otis, Athena's kind-hearted private secretary Murphy, and the patient factotum Mr. Pippet, who not only manages appointments and mixes drinks for Claudia but also cares for her lapdog Mr. Boodles, are involved in the chaos.
