Thursday 29 October · 18:30Reichensteinhof · niederoesterreich

What's it about?

Presentation of the life’s work of Maria Ohmeyer. On October 29, 2026, at 6:30 PM, the town of Poysdorf invites to a presentation of the Ohmeyer catalogs at Reichensteinhof. The newly compiled catalogs provide insight into the artist Maria Ohmeyer’s life’s work. The presentation not only honors her artistic achievements but also the places and people who preserved and made her work visible. Maria Ohmeyer, 1896-1983, was an Austrian academic painter who spent eight decades of her life in Poysdorf. Her artistic foundation was formed at the Vienna Women’s Academy and is rooted in traditional painting culture. Her works include animal and movement studies in charcoal and chalk, pastels and oil paintings with floral motifs, as well as drawings on paper and cardboard. She has been represented in numerous exhibitions both domestically and abroad. Poysdorf was a frequent venue for her exhibitions. From the municipal museum, which dedicated an exhibition to her in 1979, to the presentation 'Artists in the Weinviertel' at the Vienna Secession in 1982, and the memorial site in the Nachtwächterhaus and Schloss Poysbrunn in 1994. For her 100th birthday, an exhibition was held at the Nachtwächterhaus. The 1998 state exhibition 'Rebellious & Conformed' at Schloss Kirchstetten also showcased her works. Over two decades, changing special exhibitions took place at the Nachtwächterhaus. In 2015, the Maria Ohmeyer Way with an open-air gallery was inaugurated. It features eleven weatherproof reproductions of her works and an information panel designed by regional art and culture actors.
