What's it about?

New lay defibrillators in Hochleithen – saving lives together A sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone – at any time and anywhere. In such a situation, every minute counts. That is why the municipality of Hochleithen has acquired two new lay defibrillators, further improving the first aid equipment in our community. What is a lay defibrillator? A lay defibrillator, short AED (Automated External Defibrillator), is an easy-to-use medical device that can be used in case of a sudden cardiac arrest. The device automatically analyzes the heart rhythm and decides whether a life-saving electric shock is necessary. The application is explicitly designed for medical laypersons. The defibrillator provides clear voice instructions step-by-step and guides through the entire process. You do not need medical knowledge to help in an emergency. When is a defibrillator used? A lay defibrillator is used when a person is unconscious and not breathing normally. Immediate action is required: call emergency number 144, begin resuscitation, and use the defibrillator. The earlier resuscitation measures are started and a defibrillator is used, the greater the chances of the affected person surviving. Here are the locations of the new defibrillators in Hochleithen To ensure help can be provided as quickly as possible in an emergency, the two new devices are located at central and easily accessible sites: Hochleithen Community Center The defibrillator is located in the entrance area of the community center, opposite the entrance to the Raiffeisenbank. Bogenneusiedl – Youth Center The second defibrillator is located next to the youth center in Bogenneusiedl, at the right door next to the entrance to the youth center (former Greislerei). Our volunteer fire brigade Hochleithen is also equipped with its own defibrillator, ensuring they are well prepared for operations and emergencies. What to do if a person is unresponsive? If you find an unresponsive person, the most important thing is: do not hesitate – act! Speak to the person and check for response. Check breathing. If the person is not breathing normally, assume cardiac arrest. Call for help immediately and dial 144 or assign someone to do so. Begin resuscitation – 30 chest compressions alternating with 2 rescue breaths. Perform chest compressions firmly, quickly, and regularly in the middle of the chest. Have the defibrillator brought and turned on. Follow the voice instructions of the device. The lay defibrillator will tell you exactly what to do. Continue until emergency services arrive and follow the defibrillator’s instructions. Let’s learn to save lives together! A defibrillator can save lives – but only if someone is there to use it at the critical moment. Therefore, we warmly invite all residents of Hochleithen to get to know the new devices and try their application themselves. No one needs to be afraid of doing something wrong. The devices are specifically designed for laypersons and guide step-by-step through the process. During an introductory session, you can see how simple a lay defibrillator is to operate and try out what to do in an emergency. Perhaps one day you will be exactly at the right place at the right time. And then, your first actions could be crucial. Take the opportunity and join one of our free training sessions: · Friday, October 9, 2026, 5:00 PM at Milchhaus Traunfeld · Friday, October 23, 2026, 6:00 PM at Youth Center Bogenneusiedl · Wednesday, October 28, 2026, 6:00 PM at Hochleithen Community Center We look forward to seeing as many Hochleithen residents as possible! Because first aid concerns us all and can benefit everyone.
