The festival ORGELspiel 2026 kicks off with the opening concert "Moments of Improvisation", which also marks the conclusion of the master class "Grand Improvisation on Small Organs" led by Roman Hauser.For four days, the participants have intensively explored the diverse possibilities of organ improvisation. In the concert, they now make audible what has emerged during this time: musical ideas that unfold directly in the moment and always remain unique. For improvisation thrives on spontaneity – music is created from a theme, a melody, an image, or another inspiration, existing only in that moment.Organ improvisation looks back on a centuries-old tradition and combines craftsmanship with artistic freedom. This evening impressively demonstrates that great musical expressiveness does not depend on the size of an instrument. Fascinating sound worlds full of colors, contrasts, and surprising turns also emerge on small and medium-sized organs.The master class is led by Roman Hauser, an organist, improviser, and educator with an international concert career. As the principal organist of the Jesuit Church in Vienna and a lecturer for organ improvisation at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, he is one of the distinguished representatives in his field. In the concert, he will complement the participants' contributions with his own improvisations, thus making the connection between teaching, experience, and artistic practice tangible.The audience can expect a varied evening full of creativity, individual styles, and musical discoveries. Each improvisation tells its own story, each moment holds something new.
