Why donate blood?Whether after an accident, childbirth or for patients with a serious illness - in Austria, a blood bag is needed every 90 seconds. That's almost 1,000 blood bags a day. With a blood donation, you save lives.No matter what blood group - it is important.Common blood groups are donated proportionally more often, but are needed accordingly more often. Rare blood groups are donated less often, but each of them can make a difference between life and death.Blood is needed in numerous situations.For example, after serious accidents, during childbirth or for people with serious illnesses. It is an indispensable emergency medication that cannot be artificially produced. Blood donation is therefore not only a gesture of solidarity, but a life-saving measure.Only together - through every single donation - can we ensure that there is always enough blood available for those who urgently need it.People between their 18th and 70th birthday who meet certain health and legally defined criteria can donate blood. An official photo ID must be brought to the blood donation and there must be at least eight weeks between two whole blood donations.
