Hubertusmesse in Retz

What's it about?

With this first Hubertusmesse, the Retz Hunting Society aims to establish a new tradition in Retz. The Holy Mass emphasizes the connection to nature, gratitude, and respectful coexistence of humans, animals, and the environment. Saint Hubertus is regarded as the patron saint of hunters. According to legend, Hubertus encountered a magnificent stag during a hunt, in whose antlers a glowing cross appeared. This experience transformed him into a person who viewed creation with reverence and responsibility. The message of this legend remains relevant today: it reminds us not only to use nature but to value and preserve it as a precious resource. For this reason, the Hubertusmesse is not exclusively for hunters. All citizens who feel connected to our homeland and work with or spend their leisure time in nature are invited. The mass is intended to be a place of encounter where the shared responsibility for our cultural landscape and its diverse habitats becomes visible. The musical accompaniment is provided by the Retz Land Hunting Horn Blowers. With their traditional hunting horns, they create a special atmosphere for the Hubertusmesse. The hunting music reflects the centuries-old tradition of hunting customs. After the mass, there will be a blessing of the hunting dogs in front of the town hall. The loyal companions of many hunters will be the focus and will receive a church blessing for their important role in forest and field. Afterwards, all visitors are warmly invited to an agape at the town hall community room. This offers an opportunity for conversations, encounters, and a cozy conclusion to the evening. The Retz Hunting Society looks forward to many guests and a collective sign of solidarity, tradition, and appreciation of nature.
