What's it about?
Cabaret about religion and church can be a hell of a lot of fun. Lainer & Aigner have already proven this with "I am the Vinedresser, you are the Bottles" and "Operation Sheep." They have not only stormed cabaret stages but also parish halls. Even some clergymen (with or without a girlfriend) enjoyed it. Why a third program on the topic of religion after two "secular" ones? First, because thanks to the breathtaking reform pace of the church, most issues are as fresh as on the first day. Second, because Lainer & Aigner do not want to leave Christianity to fascists or pale clergy. For them, it’s mainly about practice: whether someone believes in one god, many gods, or none — what matters is the effort to be a friendly, helpful person. The poor dog doesn’t care if the savior in distress calls his god Allah, Yahweh, Huitzilopochtli, or none at all. The main thing is that he helps. The problem is more with those who constantly spout pious sayings to elevate themselves — like the swarm of evangelical, filthy-rich TV preachers who roll their eyes in delight in front of live cameras to shake hands with the horror clown in the White House. Lainer & Aigner prefer to stay loyal to their old, flawed church, which they highly appreciate for enduring with them for so long. Thus, "z'fleiß katholisch" has become a sometimes "gossipy," mostly affectionate look back at a homogeneous Catholic culture that no longer exists today. A kind of "Best of Church Cabaret" with old and new scenes and many songs, an evening full of heavenly punchlines, sinful satire, and heretical comedy. At the same time, it is also an appeal for a courageous new beginning, because no better thing than love has been invented yet. The sacrament of humor can be a great help — always on the way toward heaven!.
