Pavel Shalman & Boki Radenkovic / Electric Rose - KlezMore Festival
What's it about?
Pavel Shalman & Boki Radenković Klezmer & Wir The Jewish violinist Pavel Shalman explores his roots: The program Klezmer & Wir combines musical childhood memories with the present and takes the audience on a journey full of virtuosity, beautiful melodies, and a touch of humor. Exciting uptempo dances and historical transcriptions meet original compositions that playfully incorporate elements of jazz, tango, and classical music. Yiddish singing performances add emotional depth to the program and connect the audience with the rich cultural tradition of Klezmer. Fearless improvisations and unexpected twists make each concert a unique experience. Pavel Shalman – violin, vocals, Boki Radenković – accordion, vocals Electric Rose Forgotten Jewish-Ukrainian songs by Rose Cohen are reinterpreted in Electric Rose by the multi-instrumentalists Ilya Shneyveys and Sarah Myerson. The project brings an extraordinary musical heritage to the stage: Yiddish songs about love, loss, work, and migration, Hebrew liturgical chants, and Ukrainian folk songs. Rose Cohen was born in 1897 near Kyiv and emigrated to the New World as a young woman. Her songs connect personal stories with the sound worlds of Eastern Europe and Jewish traditions. From this emerges a powerful, genre-crossing sound with influences from the Balkans, Slavic, Sephardic, and Middle Eastern music, as well as elements of rock and electronica. Sarah Myerson – vocals, ukulele, shofar, flute, vocoder, music box Ilya Shneyveys – vocals, baglamadaki, keyboards, guitar, ukulele, flutes, ney
