What's it about?
The Nord Quartet combines Alpine sound traditions with musical influences from Scandinavia, opening up a finely tuned soundscape between intimacy, expanse, and landscape. The four musicians from Tyrol, Styria, and Burgenland have been moving together between Austrian folk music and Nordic sound worlds since 2020, and with great musical sensitivity. With accordion, Viennese horn, tuba, cello, and harp, they embark on a musical journey north. The starting point for this are traditional melodies, new compositions, and impressions that Johannes Kölbl collected during his several-year stay in Scandinavia. Their program "Mitternachtssonne" (Midnight Sun) musically traces landscapes: clear lines, calm expanse, and moving natural images meet multi-part singing and warm acoustic timbres. This creates music that does not contrast Alpine and Nordic traditions, but rather brings them into resonance with each other.
