What's it about?
"coolest gang" Everyone wants to write for the coolest gang – at least those who know what's possible with such a lineup. This isn't about pleasantness, but about friction: jazz in full vitality meets modern sound thinking. Origin is not asserted, but questioned – and reinvented. Composed without a safety net, played without a double bottom. A ruthless personal style is not a risk here, but the program. Music that doesn't ask if it's allowed – but simply happens. It is important to the Janus Ensemble that sound art does not merely serve as a musical uniform for various social groups – for example, as classical music consumption for civil society – but uses its rousing power to reflect on the unsettling signs of our time. All too often, music in the tension between precarity and high culture presents itself as apolitical and merely delivers what is expected of it: the sound for burying one's head in the sand. A special feature of the Janus Ensemble is its focus on works at the interface of New Music and Jazz.
