Vermessene Welt#1: The Song of the Drones
What's it about?
A meditation by and with Otmar Wagner. In his first work at Theater am Werk, performance artist Otmar Wagner creates a performative wellness zone with a bed and an artificial sky, where floating sounds, silent songs, and poetic resistance emerge. Imagine a raft drifting leisurely on a river of shit, beauty, and money into a completely polluted sea. Imagine a person on the raft stuffing wax into their ears to protect their hollow organs while struggling with dizziness and balance. Imagine this person is not alone, because you are part of the crew. Together you flow along, lost otoliths in the ear. Otmar Wagner creates a performative wellness zone, an open environment with a bed at its center. Lying in bed, he looks into a fictional sky; the sky looks back. Il cielo in una stanza. Fundamental tones oscillate, thoughts waver through the room, crawl into the freezer, empty themselves in the urinal. The artist exorcises a uniform, almost silent song about himself and what surrounds him. Drones take off and sing along. From an anthropofugal perspective, the full extent of measuring, surveying, presumption, and arrogance becomes apparent, i.e., all that flanks the personal, social, and philosophical questions of his remaining biography. In view of the current situation, Otmar Wagner bids farewell to discursive, essayistic strategies. As an unprogrammed uprising against the suppression, caused by technology and politics, of all those creative outbursts and expressions that a sensitive person needs for their life, he turns to a subtextual process in which art shows itself in ambivalent, poisoned beauty and creates purposeless, hybrid non-sense.
