Mythen des Alltags - A collective storytelling by Mattias Andersson with English surtitles. A joint production of Volkstheater Wien with Wiener Festwochen | Freie Republik Wien. In collaboration with the Institute of Sociology at the University of Vienna. "Is there a particular moment in your life that you would like to see performed?" This question was posed by Swedish director and playwright Mattias Andersson to the residents of Vienna. In collaboration with the Institute of Sociology at the University of Vienna, nearly one hundred interviews were conducted with people representing a cross-section of the city’s population based on socio-economic aspects. From these responses, the play MYTHEN DES ALLTAGS (Myths of Everyday Life) is created, which tells of trivial as well as existential moments, humorous as well as dramatic ones, and depicts a truly pluralistic and multi-voiced panorama of the city. Mythen des Alltags allows the people of Vienna to become the creators of their own myth — condensed by Andersson and the ensemble of Volkstheater into a touching, heterogeneous, comic, and surprising theater evening. The play also continually revolves around the question of the (power) relationship between reality and fiction, between true stories and art, and how the documentary, everyday life becomes something we call theater.
