The world is shaken by power struggles, conflicts of loyalty, war. After a bloody battle, three witches promise the victorious Macbeth a great future: Hitherto only Thane of Glamis, he could soon attain the more significant title of Thane of Cawdor, even ascend the steps to the Scottish throne. Their magical appearance triggers a deadly game between determination and free will. Driven by ambition, Macbeth quickly overcomes all scruples. Together with his wife, he embarks on a mission to seize power. Step by step, through betrayal and deception, they set out on a murderous path. Once entered, it leads them into a spiral of violence, bloodshed, and guilt. Real and imagined enemies constantly threaten their rule and must be eliminated. In the process, Scotland increasingly becomes a terror state. Constantly re-dipped in blood, soon no hand can be washed clean. And the dark prophecies that continue to guide Macbeth's increasingly erratic decisions are hardly decipherable anymore. They predict, but they do not compel. He interprets – and acts. Created around 1606, MACBETH combines historical events with supernatural elements, inner conflicts, and a look into human abysses. Resident director Rieke Süßkow, known for formally strong productions, uses elements of puppet and object theatre to connect Shakespeare's dark work about the fragility of civilizational facades and the psychological deformation by power with the imagery and aesthetics of online gaming. Every twist in the game for power influences Macbeth and his Lady. And every one of their actions changes the world. To the point of madness.
