Döbling Burning - A Singspiel from the Edge
What's it about?
The poet and songwriter Ernst Molden, who escaped from Döbling to Erdberg decades ago, has dedicated a fantastic dance of death to his birth district. Döbling, Vienna's 19th district, the last bastion of the old Austrian bourgeoisie. There's a hangover after the (Neustifter) Kirtag (traditional fair): Otto Meyer-Sudelfeld, a failed performance artist and the last scion of a rubber manufacturer dynasty, could inherit his grandmother's villa and her fortune if he would only finally behave like a decent Döblinger and bury his crazy ideas. But the church, in the form of Monsignore Schoiswohl, is also eyeing the villa and the money. The demonic winemaker Leopold Probus Musil plays a role, as does a real Döbling ghost: Saint Agnes. After the Amadeus-awarded and multiple Nestroy-nominated productions HÄUSERL AM OASCH, HAFEN WIEN and MAYERLING, Rabenhof-Spezl Ernst Molden - a "partner in crime" in the Gemeindebau theater for decades when it comes to the successful revival of the old Viennese Singspiel - finally has a new production.
