What's it about?
The successful production SELBSTBEZICHTIGUNG, a solo evening with Stefanie Reinsperger, returns to Vienna after its premiere at Volx/Margareten in 2015 and its transfer to the Berliner Ensemble: Peter Handke's 1966 premiere of SELBSTBEZICHTIGUNG in a way serves as a complementary counterpart to the previous PUBLIKUMSBESCHIMPFUNG (public insult). The audience is not attacked but elevated to the highest authority, as if it were a court or a god. "Postulates, principles, labels, statutes, general opinions and formulas" (Peter Handke) form directives that seem unavoidable to violate. Similarly, under the motto "Who lives, disturbs," the text demonstrates which mistakes accompany every life path. While Handke tries not to attribute culpable behavior to personal weaknesses, Dušan David Pařízek takes the opposite approach: he re-personalizes the impersonal. Directed by Dušan David Pařízek.
