Self-Accusation
What's it about?
The successful production SELF-ACCUSATION, a solo evening with Stefanie Reinsperger, finally returns to Vienna after its premiere at Volx/Margareten in 2015 and its transfer to the Berliner Ensemble: Peter Handke's SELF-ACCUSATION, first performed in 1966, represents in a way a complementary counterpart to the preceding OFFENDING THE AUDIENCE. The audience is not attacked, but elevated to the highest authority, as if it were a court or a god. "Postulates, principles, labels, statutes, general opinions and formulas" (Peter Handke) form prescriptions that seem unavoidable to violate. Following the motto "Whoever lives, disturbs," the text demonstrates what mistakes accompany every path of life. Where Handke tries not to attribute culpable behavior to personal weaknesses, Dušan David Pařízek takes the opposite approach: He makes the impersonal personal again.
