What's it about?

In 1791, in his year of death, the heavily indebted Mozart completed the story of two lovers who find each other amidst the struggle of dark forces, thus revealing the utopia of a realm of reason and humanity, where colorful birds also have their place. The Magic Flute, which is performed at almost all major opera houses worldwide today, had its world premiere in a Vienna suburb theater. 232 years later, a traveling theater troupe brings their own version of the opera to the stage. The 'Kratky-Baschik-Zaubertheater' is bankrupt and urgently needs the perfect entertainment show. The troupe is willing to use any means: the sacred composition is rearranged, Mozart's motifs are transformed into songs of various styles, and the rewritten libretto is shared by only six performers, each of whom must take on multiple roles. In a submerged world of vaudeville, variety, and the dark Prater street theater, perhaps the most daring reinterpretation of one of the most famous operas in the world is created. Actor and musician Nils Strunk, together with author Lukas Schrenk, a three-member band, and the ensemble, creates a joyful, musical reflection on the magic of the stage and the power of togetherness. Mozart and Schikaneder would be turning in their graves.
