What's it about?
Average and Kayo, two mainstays of the Austrian rap scene, are joining forces for the first time in 2026 to release a collaborative album that is already being touted as one of the most exciting projects of the year. Average, from Linz, has established himself as a formative voice in local hip-hop with mixtapes, EPs, and numerous collaborations. Kayo has been one of the central figures of the scene since the 1990s – both solo and as a member of Markante Handlungen – and has significantly shaped its development. Both are also part of the TTR Allstars collective. Together, they are creating an album that oscillates between classic boom bap and contemporary productions. With the support of a who's who of the scene, a versatile work is emerging that appeals to die-hard hip-hop fans as well as listeners of current trends. Content-wise, the release moves between personal stories and pointed battle rap. Fans of dialect can especially look forward to it: the interplay of dialect, distinctive voices, and varied production gives the project an unmistakable character – and makes it a potential contender for the dialect rap album of the year 2026.
