UCHRONIA - what if when
What's it about?
Uchronia - "non-time"; the time that never happened.UCHRONIA opens a window to possible musical worlds in never-existent times. Two compositional elaborations, emerging from hypothetical historical divergences - Monkpunk and HyperRhythmicon - inscribe themselves into St. Stephen's Cathedral for the duration of the performance, which thereby becomes the sounding body of decolonial speculations. The Gregorian choir and the giant organ form the sonic core of the work. Synthesizer and electronic organ sounds, techno-pulsating drum machines, Afro-Caribbean drum culture, and voices distorted with Autotune coexist with the historical sound bodies of the cathedral. The audience moves through different listening perspectives - sometimes walking, sitting, lying, between monumental overall sound and intimate situations in side aisles and chapels.
