Franz Fröstl is six years old and lives in Vienna. Starting school is not easy: his best friend Gabi Gruber is not in the same class as him, and to Franz's dissatisfaction, he also has to realize that learning to read takes quite a long time. As if that weren't enough, his class teacher is also a strange zigzag-type who speaks only curtly and unkindly and barks orders at the students as if they were soldiers. Franz thinks Zigzag could be a little more polite, but it's not so easy to explain that to Zigzag, because as soon as he gets upset, his voice gets very squeaky. This is a problem because Franz can't explain to Zigzag why the numbers disappear from the arithmetic book, or to Gabi that she is - of course - wrong when the two argue again. All of this is annoying, but Franz knows how to help himself. With kind support from STAUD'S Wien
