Winkelbauermühle is located in the Naturpark-Gemeinde St. Kathrein am Offenegg. Along the Lambach river runs the so-called Kathreiner Mühlental. Its name derives from the 20 mills that once stood there and processed grain into flour — entirely without electricity, powered solely by the water's force driving the mill wheels. Today, there are still two operational mills, which have been painstakingly restored by the Kathreiner community volunteers — Winkelbauermühle is one of these two mills. Through an access behind the mill, visitors can take a look inside at any time. For a more detailed insight into past times, guided tours of the Schaumühle are available, where you can learn about the history and technology of the Bachmühle. An appointment for the tour must be made by calling +43 3179 / 8500! The best way to explore the mills along the Lambach is via the Mühlental-Rundweg, which in 2023 was even nominated as one of the 9 Plätzen - 9 Schätze (9 Places - 9 Treasures). The tour starts at the Gasthaus & Freizeitanlage Karl-Wirt, where you can also enjoy a meal after the hike and taste the delicious Almenland-Fisch! Along the way, you will repeatedly encounter impressive sculptures made from horseshoes by the AlmART artist Sascha Exenberger.
