The old house was first documented in 1602 as a salt producer's house. From 1786 to 1829, it housed the Gasthaus zum Goldenen Hirschen. In 1829, it lost its "Gastgewerbsgerechtigkeit" (innkeeper's license). In 1847, the house was owned by the shoemaker family Walter, and from 1886 by the butcher family Lüer.After the great fire in Kirchengasse in 1896, the properties of the fire site were sold: The remains of the house Kirchengasse 3 went to the wine merchant Karl Spiesberger. He had a magnificent new double house built in its place. It already received its current appearance at that time.Among other things, the Spiesberger family established a Weinhaus (wine tavern) there. Since 1987, the Weinhaus has been owned by Klaus and Stefanie Ötzlinger through purchase and has been run as a restaurant ever since. It remains a popular establishment to this day. The small northern part of the double house still serves as a premises for various business sectors.More information can be found under Gmundens Schätze!
