The rowan tree, or as it is called in the Naturpark Almenland - the Vogelbeerbaum (bird cherry tree) - is a rose family plant that blooms from May to July and accordingly bears ripe Vogelbeer (rowan berries) from August to September. These berries are especially popular in St. Kathrein am Offenegg and are processed into many different products. At Edelbrennerei Graf, for example, you can buy Vogelbeeredelbrand (bird cherry brandy), Vogelbeerlikör (bird cherry liqueur), as well as Vogelbeer-Marmelade (bird cherry jam) - of course, there are many other delicious varieties that are best sampled during a guided tour with tastings. For those who enjoy nature, the Sulamith Garten with its magnificent floral displays will surely make you happy. Here, an audio tour guides visitors through the garden. Of course, no hike is complete without a stop for refreshments. St. Kathrein has plenty to offer in this regard, and you can find the local hosts here.
